MEET OUR STAFF: Revenue Manager Linn

Who are you and what do you do on a daily basis?

I am Linn Allos-Reid and I have been working at Kämp Collection Hotels, now Strawberry Finland, since 2016 in various positions. I started at the reception desk of GLO hotels, from where I moved to central sales and from there to commercial assistant. Now I am Revenue Manager and I am responsible for several hotels in our hotel family.

My daily work involves making sure that the hotel rooms are available for booking on the different booking channels and that the reservations are correctly routed to our hotel's reservation system. I follow the development of accommodation sales and the hotel market in Helsinki. I also work closely with marketing and the hotel in creating experiences and benefits, such as traditional summer stays and this summer's special Pride package.

My work combines market knowledge with data tracking and analysis to drive sales figures and monitoring tourism trends. This may sound quite technical and an essential part of my job is to put all the information I collect into a form that my work community can understand!

What kind of things make you feel good?

Helping by creating opportunities, especially for children. My spouse and I donate monthly to the Foundation for Disabled Children and Youth (Vamlas) and Save the Children. Hobbies and leisure activities are important for all children. Vamlas promotes the inclusion and equality of children and young people with disabilities in society and helps them to become more independent in their daily lives.

Our hotel family also works with the we4you charity, which supports seriously ill children and young people and their families. We have been able to fulfil children's wishes for restaurant dinners and hotel nights.

What is the best thing about working at Fabian?

I work at our head office, so I'm rarely at Fabian, but the close-knit and efficient working spirit extends beyond the hotel. The best thing about Fabian is definitely the people and the team's ability to look after customers. They take the time to pay attention to detail and you can be sure that everything agreed will always be taken care of. Kati, Mats and Jan do an excellent job with the team!

It's no wonder that year after year Fabian stays in a good position in TripAdvisor listings, for example. The feedback and comments highlight the friendly staff, the hotel's excellent location and the rooms, of which our relatively large Comfort rooms are a pleasant surprise for many. As for the hotel itself, many people like its homely feel - including me!

What do you recommend to do in Helsinki?

There is plenty to see and do in the centre, but if you have time, you should also explore the small streets outside the city centre. Helsinki is a small big city and you can see a lot of different areas on foot or by bike. You can walk to the waterfront almost anywhere in Helsinki.

Helsinki has many popular flea markets and second hand clothes shops. One worth a visit is the charming Relove, which also serves as a café. One of their shops is located on Fredrikinkatu near Fabian and there are many other second hand shops nearby.

On the way to the sea from Fabian, it's worth stopping off at Helsinki's oldest Market Hall for lunch. The adjacent Market Square is bustling in Summer. From there you can make a trip to Suomenlinna or the Helsinki Biennale in Vallisaari.

Tell us about your most memorable joyful encounter with a hotel guest!

While working at the reception, I met many interesting guests, but by far the best were those travelling with their pets! The hotels have been visited by lizards and snakes in addition to the traditional dogs and cats. Most of the time, pets were greeted at check-in on the other side of the counter – always a delightful encounter!

The Fabian has a reputation for being a dog and cat friendly hotel and one fun project the other year was an accommodation package in collaboration with Brit Care for travellers with cats. The hotel has a standard pet kit for those arriving with a dog, and Fabian is a great place for furry friends. The pet-friendliness is certainly enhanced by the adjacent Star Tower Park, where it's nice to take your dog for an evening walk, and the LUX rooms, which have direct access to the hotel's courtyard.

What was your #GoodDeedOfTheDay today?

Whenever I'm in the centre of Helsinki, I always look for tourists who could use some help and offer it to them! This has led to many happy encounters over the years. I hope that this summer I can help as many people as possible and that we will get a lot of tourists to Finland!
